The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a weight loss program first advocated by Barry Sears in a series of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t exactly a weight reduction diet, however some people find that they manage to lose body weight when following it. The main scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you gain control of the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts one's body in a state of equilibrium that is more healthful than it normally is, this is referred to as 'the zone'. Sears alleges that when your body is in this 'zone' it is much more efficient and, as a result, does not need to convert surplus energy to fat. The most valuable method of the zone system is to maintain the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to take plenty of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. The brassica family, Wonderfoods that also help with your Dieting (includes Kale, Lettuce, Collard greens and Chinese cabbage) Altthough not always popular with children, these vegetables are rich in vitamins (eg.folate and vit c), minerals (including potassium and selenium), chlorophyll, fibre, indole-3-carbinol and isothiocyanates.. Amongst many health and diet benefits, the isothiocyanates in these are believed by nutritionalists to reduce the risk of cancer. |
