Ingredients
2 cup broccoli, chopped
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 each garlic clove
1/2 each onion, chopped
1/4 lb mushrooms, chopped
3/4 cup cottage cheese, low fat
1/4 cup yogurt, low fat plain
1 pinch salt, pepper
Directions
Cook broccoli just until tender-crisp, (3 minutes). Drain and put
under cold water. In nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium heat; add
garlic, onion and mushrooms and cook, until onion is tender. Set
aside.
In blender, combine cottage cheese and yogurt; season with salt and
pepper to taste. Process just until mixed. Cover and refrigerate.
Makes 2 1/2 cups. Per T: 12 cal; .5 g fat; 0 cholesterol; 22 mg salt.

Types of dietThe Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition system first devised by Barry Sears in a series of books. The Zone diet is not distinctly a fat reduction diet, but many followers discover that they actually manage to lose body weight by following the zone diet. The 'science' claimed for the Zone Diet is that if you manage to control the secretion of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, as a consequence puts one's body in a state of balance which is an awful lot more wholesome than normal, which is known as the zone. Sears claims that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is working at its best and, because of this, doesn't convert energy to unsightly fat. The most important technique of the zone diet is to monitor and control the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to take large amounts of Omega 3 fish oils. The Atkins’ Diet First invented by doctor atkins in the sixities, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Although highly controversial, it supposedly allows weight loss whilst allowing many of the foods you love, for example meat and cheeses. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate/high protein, nutrition and weight loss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The controversial theory behind the atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbs to transform into energy, it is the carbs which are burned first. If we reduce your intake of carbs, our bodies will utilise our stored fat and we will achieve weight loss. Although tempting, the atkins diet is divisive, not all nutritionalists are in agreement and some even hold that it might be risky. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a weight loss system started by Miami, florida-area cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses that dieters should be eating "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Agatston invented his weight loss regime for people who have cardiac problems, as a result of his detailed analysis of scientific data on other weight loss systems. Good foods include, canadian bacon, skinless poultry, seafood, provolone cheese, pistachio nuts, nonfat milk and some vegatables, such as split peas, cucumbers and mushrooms. The Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index nutrition and weightloss system is reliant on the glycaemic index, a chart showing food types and a score representing the speed with which the energy of the food type gets transformed to glucose in your system. The believe is that slow release types of food (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and mean that you can cut down on food without feeling you are always hungry. It is also extremeley effective for folk with diabetes, as the low GI types of food are beneficial in preventing increases in blood sugar secretion. |
