Diet informationThe Atkins’ Diet First invented by doctor atkins in the sixities, the popular atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Popular with many famous celebrities, it enables fat reduction whilst encouraging you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, such as beef and cheeses. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a low carb/high protein, nutrition and weightloss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil. The Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index nutrition system is based around the gi (or glycaemic index), a chart showing types of food and a score representing the rapidity with which the carbohydrates in the food gets changed to glucose in the dieters bloodstream. The believe is that long-acting foods (ie those foods with a low Gi score), suppress your appetite and mean that you can reduce your consumption of food without feeling hungry. It's also extremely effective for diabetics, as the low GI foods are helpful in reducing increases in glucose secretion. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet plan created by Cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes that dieters should be eating "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Doctor agatston developed his system for his cardiac patients, as a consequence of his detailed study of scientific studies completed on other diets. Good foods include, canadian bacon, turkey bacon, oysters, parmesan cheese, peanuts, lowfat or nonfat milk and some vegatables, such as black beans, cabbage and water chestnuts. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet initially invented by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet is not specifically a weight reduction diet, nevertheless many zone diet fans discover that they lose weight by following it. The 'science' behind the Zone Diet is that if one can control the secretion of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids which puts one's body in a balanced state which is much more wholesome than other diets, which is known as the zone. Sears states that if you get into this 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, as a consequence, does not need to convert surplus energy to fat. The most important procedure of the diet is to maintain the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to dose yourself with large amounts of Omega 3 fish oils. |
