The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a weight loss program first created by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet isn’t particularly a weight reduction diet, although many 'zone dieters' believe that they really seem to lose weight when following it.
The science claimed for the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to gain control of the secretion of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts the body in a state of balance which is much more wholesome than it normally is, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone".
Sears states that a body that is in 'the zone' is working at its best and, as a consequence, doesn't convert energy to unsightly fat.
The most important technique of the zone diet is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to make sure your diet has increased amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils.

The low calorie diet

Put simply, the low-cal diet depends on the fact that if you want to become thinner, it is important to eat fewer calories than you need.

What is a calorie?
The calorie is the unit used for measuring the amount of energy in food. A 'calorie' is the amount of heat required to raise 1 kilogram of water 1 degree centigrade. If a meal contains more calories, then it will provide your body with more energy to use when it is eaten.

Low-cal food types include green beans, green peppers, grapefruit, low fat hot-dogs, and low-fat cheese.

The brassica family, Wonderfoods that aid Weight loss
(examples: Cauliflower, Cabbage, Collard greens and Rutabaga)
Altthough not always popular with children, these are full of vitamins (folate and vitamin c, for example), minerals (eg. potassium and selenium), fibre, chlorophyll, antioxidents, isothiocyanates, and indole-3-carbinol.

In addition to their many health and weight loss benefits, the vitamins and nutrients in these are believed by many to significantly lower the risk of getting cancer.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
