The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet plan created by Miami, florida-area cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses that dieters should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Doctor agatston invented the south beach diet for people who have heart disease, based on his detailed study of scientific research completed on other diets. Good foods include, lean beef, turkey breast, fish, provolone cheese, peanuts, lowfat yoghurt and some vegatables, like kidney beans, cauliflower and sprouts. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet initially created by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet isn’t particularly a fat reduction diet, nevertheless some people believe that they actually seem to lose a few pounds when following it. The 'science' claimed for the Zone Diet is that if one can limit the secretion of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids which, in turn puts the body in a state of equilibrium which is a lot more healthy than normal, known as the 'zone'. Sears holds the theory that if you get into this 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, as a consequence, doesn't need to convert surplus energy to fat. The most important procedure of the zone system is to control the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get increased levels of Omega 3 and omega 6. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes pickled shallots, onions and green onion) The onion, leek and garlic family of foods is rich in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe could be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is too little scientific proof obtainable, allyl sulfides are also believed to reduce symptoms with colds, arteriosclerosis and fatigue. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also low in calories, so should be included in your weight loss regime. |
