Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes eschalot, white onions and spring onions) The onion range of vegetables is rich in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is not enough, scientific proof at hand, allyl sulfides are also thought to reduce problems with antiinflammatory effect, sterilization and physical exhaustion. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also low in calories, so are ideal for including in your weight loss regime. The Atkins’ Diet Now nearly 5 decades old, the popular atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it enables weight loss whilst allowing many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, eg fatty meat and butter. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, it is the carbs that must be avoided. It is referred to as a high protein, low carb, weight loss regime. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, amongst them, cereals and pasta made from white flour. With this diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish & poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The controversial theory behind the atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbs to transform into glucose, it is the carbs which are burned first. If we eat less carbs, we will utilize the fat we already carry and we will become thinner. This is the bit that is divisive, not all specialists agree and quite a few allege that it is sometimes unsafe. |
