Diet information

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet system invented by Dr. arthur agatston, a cardiologist from miami, usa, which stresses that one should consume "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Doctor agatston invented this diet as an aid to patients with heart conditions, based on his detailed study of scientific data on other diets.
Good foods include, canadian bacon, turkey breast, shrimp, feta cheese, pistachio nuts, lowfat milk and some vegatables, such as chickpeas, collard greens and spinach.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition system initially devised by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet is not particularly a fat reduction diet, nevertheless many people believe that they reduce a few pounds when following it.
The science behind the Zone Diet is that if one can limit the levels of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts your body in a state of equilibrium that is more healthful than it normally is, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'.
Sears alleges that a body that is in 'the zone' is working at its best and, as a consequence, does not build up fat.
The most important procedure of the system is to keep tight control over the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get increased amounts of Omega 3 fish oils.

The Atkins’ Diet
Although it originated back in the 1960s, the famous atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Popular with many famous celebrities, it enables fat reduction whilst allowing you to eat many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, eg beef and hard cheese.
With the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, nutrition and weight loss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The logic behind the atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbs to burn into carbs, it is the carbohydrates which are burned first. If we cut down on carbohydrates, we will consume our stored fat and we will lose weight. This theory is contentious, not all researchers agree and a few feel it can sometimes be dangerous.

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
