Superfoods rich in flavonoids (inlcudes lettuce, brussels sprouts, adzuki bean and thyme) The compounds known as flavonoids discovered in these food types are believed to be good in helping to prevent cancer. Experts looking into the medical effects of flavonoids believe they could have most other healthy benefits, including, but not limited to, anti-viral and antitumor properties. Most are low in calories, so are ideal for including in your weight loss program. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet system primarily invented by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet isn’t exactly a weight loss diet, but many zone diet followers find that they really manage to lose weight when following it. The supposed science behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to gain control of the amount of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts one's body in a state of equilibrium which is more healthy than other diets, which is known as the zone. Sears states that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its best and, as a consequence, does not need to build up stores of fat. The most interesting process of the diet is to keep tight control over the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get increased amounts of Omega 3 and omega 6. |
