Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes garlic, onions and welsh onion) The onion and garlic range of vegetables is high in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is little scientific proof available, allyl sulphides are also thought to aid in colds, sterilization and diabetes. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also good for weight loss, so are ideal for including in your diet. The Atkins’ Diet Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last decade. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it claims to allow fat reduction whilst allowing many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, like pork and hard cheese. With the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, weight loss program. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The theory of the popular atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbs to change into carbs, it is the carbohydrates that are burned primarily. If we consume fewer carbohydrates, we will burn up the fat we have stored and we will get rid of some fat. This is the bit that is divisive, not all experts are in agreement and some believe it might be hazardous. |
