Weight loss systems

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition system is based around the gi index, a list of foods and a score representing the speed with which the glucose in the food type gets converted to sugar in your system. The believe is that slow acting types of food (ie with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you satiated for longer and help you to cut down on food without feeling you are always hungry.
It is also very useful for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI foods are useful in minimizing rises in blood sugar secretion.

The Atkins’ Diet
Although it originated back in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Although not accepted by all scientists, it allows weight reduction whilst allowing foods that are normally considered bad for diets, eg meat and cheeses.
With this diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. Because of this, it is known as a high protein, low carb, nutrition system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The theory of the famous atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbs to convert into energy, it is the carbohydrates that are burned primarily. If we reduce your intake of carbohydrates, we will consume the fat we have stored and we will achieve weight loss. Although tempting, the atkins diet is divisive, not all experts accept this as true and some even allege that it is sometimes hazardous.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
