Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes garlic, white onions and welsh onion) The onion family of vegetables is rich in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is very little scientific evidence published, allyl sulfides are also thought by many researchers to aid in antiinflammatory effect, high blood pressure and insomnia. Foods containing allyl sulfides also have a low calorie count, so are ideal for including in your diet. The Atkins’ Diet First invented by doctor atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still widely used today. Popular with many famous celebrities, it supposedly allows fat reduction whilst allowing you to eat foods that are normally considered bad for diets, eg bacon and cheeses. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. It is often referred to as a low carb/high protein, diet. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish & poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. |
