Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes pickled shallots, chives and spring onions) The onion and garlic family of foods is high in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe could be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is precious little scientific evidence available, allyl sulfides are also thought by many researchers to reduce the symptoms of colds, high blood pressure and diabetes. Foods containing allyl sulfides also have a low calorie count, so should be a part of every diet system. A low calorie weight loss regime As most people know, a low calorie weight loss regime is based on the fact that if you are going to reduce weight, then you have to eat fewer calories than you use. Definition of a calorie? The calorie is a unit for measuring food's ability to produce heat and energy. A calorie is the amount of heat required to raise 1 kilogram of water 1 degree centigrade. If a meal contains more calories, then it will provide your body with more energy to use when eaten. Low-cal food types include broccoli, carrots, apricots, canadian bacon, and bamboo shoots. |
