The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet created by Florida-based cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses that one should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston invented this diet as an aid to patients with heart conditions, based on his detailed analysis of scientific data on other dietary studies. Good foods include, veal cutlets, chicken breast, oysters, low or fat free cheeses, pistachios, nonfat milk and some vegatables, such as split peas, eggplant and spinach. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes pickled shallots, leeks and spring onions) The onion and garlic range of vegetables is high in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is little scientific evidence obtainable, allyl sulfides are also believed to aid in antiinflammatory effect, sterilization and insomnia. Foods containing allyl sulfides are low in calories, so should be included in every diet. |
