Weight loss diets

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index nutrition and weightloss system is based on the gi index, a chart showing foods and a score representing the speed that the energy in the food gets converted to sugar in your system. The believe is that slow release foods (ie those with a low Glycaemic score), will keep you feeling full for longer and mean that you can reduce your consumption of food without being miserabl;e.
It is also especially beneficial for diabetics, as the low GI foods are beneficial in controlling surges in blood glucose secretion.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition system primarily invented by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet isn’t exactly a fat reduction diet, nevertheless many 'zone dieters' claim that they actually lose body weight when following it.
The science claimed for the Zone Diet is that if one can control the levels of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a result puts your body in a state of equilibrium that is much more healthy than usual, which is known as the zone.
Sears states that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, because of this, does not need to build up stores of fat.
The key procedure of the zone diet is to control the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get plenty of Omega 3 and omega 6.

The Atkins’ Diet
Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the famous atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last few years. Although highly controversial, it allows weight reduction but still allows you to eat many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, such as bacon and butter.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that must be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate, high protein, nutrition and weightloss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The 'science' behind the atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbs to convert into glucose, it is the carbs that are burned initially. If we eat less carbohydrates, our bodies will utilize our stored fat and we will lose weight. This is the bit that is contentious, not all medical experts agree and a few think it can be bad for your health.

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
