Weight loss dietsThe South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a weight loss system created by Miami-based cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses that dieters should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Agatston invented his nutritional system for people who have cardiac problems, as a result of his analysis of scientific studies completed on other weight loss systems. Examples of good foods include, canadian bacon, turkey breast, oysters, provolone cheese, almonds, lowfat yoghurt and certain vegetables, such as chickpeas, cauliflower and mushrooms. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index nutrition and weightloss system is based on the gi (or glycaemic index), a list of foods and an indicator of the rapidity with which the glucose of the food type gets converted to glucose in the dieters system. The claim is that slow acting food types (ie those food types with a low Glycaemic score), keep you satiated for longer and mean that you can reduce your consumption of food without feeling you are missing out. It's also extremely good for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI food types are helpful in preventing increases in blood sugar levels. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system initially devised by Barry Sears in a series of books. The Zone diet is not distinctly a fat reduction diet, but many zone diet followers discover that they actually manage to lose body weight by following it. The science behind the Zone Diet is that if you can control the secretion of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a result puts your body in a state of equilibrium that is a lot more healthy than other diets, which is known as the zone. Sears claims that when in the 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, because of this, doesn't need to build up stores of fat. The key process of the zone system is to monitor and control the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has increased levels of Omega 3 and omega 6. |
