The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a weight loss regime initially created by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet is not exactly a fat reduction diet, but some people discover that they really reduce weight by following this system. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you manage to control the levels of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts the body in a state of balance that is far more healthy than usual, which is known as the zone. Sears states that when in the 'zone', your body is much more efficient and, as a consequence, doesn't build up layers of fat. The main procedure of the zone diet is to monitor and control the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure you get increased levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes pickled shallots, chives and welsh onion) The alliaceae range of vegetables is rich in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is precious little scientific evidence at hand, allyl sulfides are also thought to help with antiinflammatory effect, sterilization and fatigue. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also good for weight loss, so should be a part of every diet. |
